Get Answers to Your Online Learning Questions

New to the world of online learning? Have specific questions to ask about online classes and how they work? We can help. Below are some frequently asked online learning questions about how online learning works, what to expect and why it may be beneficial for you.

What is the difference between online learning and hybrid learning?

At DeVry, you can choose to complete many of our programs either completely online or in a hybrid format. Our hybrid offering combines traditional classroom learning with digital course delivery, giving you both the familiarity of in-person learning and the convenience of the online experience. Rest assured knowing you have the option to change formats at any time during your program.

Please note that programs, course requirements and availability vary by location. Some courses may be available online only. All students enrolled in site-based programs will be required to take some coursework online and, for some programs and locations, a substantial portion of the program may be required to be completed online.

Does choosing the online format affect my tuition costs?

No. Tuition is the same for both our hybrid and online learning formats. We assess tuition and expenses on a per-semester-credit hour basis. For more detailed information, see our Tuition and Financial Aid page.

How long will it take to complete my online degree program?

The amount of time it will take to complete your degree or certificate will vary depending on the degree level and program, as well as the number of courses you choose to take each semester. Our Academic Advisors will work with you to put together a plan that fits your life and helps you meet your goals.

Is DeVry University accredited?

Yes! DeVry University is accredited by The Higher Learning Commission (HLC), www.hlcommission.org. DeVry University's Keller Graduate School of Management is included in this accreditation as well. Visit our Accreditation and State Authorization page to learn more.

What type of help and support does DeVry offer its enrolled students?

DeVry provides our students with a robust array of support services throughout their academic journey. Those services include 24/7 on-demand live tutoring,1 accessible faculty who know you by name, certified career coaches and resume writers,2 and dedicated student support advisors. Learn more about our Student Resources and Services.

Do DeVry's degree programs include relevant certifications or prepare you for licensure?

Several DeVry online learning programs are designed to help prepare students to pursue industry certifications. For example, our Master’s Degree in Accounting incorporates Becker Professional Education’s CPA Exam prep within the coursework.

Does DeVry University offer support for alumni?

Absolutely. DeVry is proud to support our alumni by offering a variety of benefits, including job search support, coaching sessions and resume and interview tips. For DeVry alumni looking to further their education, we offer a partner group tuition rate of 20% off tuition at DeVry’s Keller Graduate School of Management.

Can I go on vacation while taking an online class?

Of course! The flexibility of online learning lets you pursue your education while still leading a busy, full life. As long as you have internet access, you can pursue an online degree from anywhere … even on vacation!

Are there specific login or participation times?

When earning a degree online, there are no specific login or participation times. DeVry offers the flexibility to login to your coursework when and where it’s convenient for you, allowing you to live your life while pursuing your education.

How do I access my coursework as an online learning student?

All course materials, assignments and discussions can be accessed 24/7 through our customized online learning platform — whether from your computer, mobile device or through our custom mobile app. You can also take advantage of our virtual library, web-based study tools and tutoring services. This video presents how online classes work at DeVry. If you have additional questions or would like a demo of the online learning platform, please reach out to our Admissions Team.

What is included in the DeVry/Keller mobile app?

You can use our mobile app to access the online learning platform, complete coursework, view grades, register for classes, send messages, manage your tuition and more. You can download the app in the Apple Store or Google Play for both DeVry and Keller.

As an online learning student, will I have access to the same faculty support as a student who takes courses on campus?

Yes. Our online classes are taught by the same experienced professors who are available to answer questions and provide guidance via email, chat or phone. Online, one-on-one tutoring services are also available.

How will I interact with my classmates as an online student? Are there group projects?

DeVry provides many opportunities to interact with your peers through our online learning platform. All of DeVry’s web-based sessions feature robust discussion threads. Many also have group projects, where students connect via phone and email to complete assignments together. DeVry’s professors are also actively involved in online learning discussions and are available to answer questions via phone and email.

Are online classes self-paced or scheduled?

Online courses allow you the flexibility to login and complete your coursework when convenient for you. Assignments and recorded course lectures, however, must meet weekly deadlines as instructed by your professor. At DeVry, you can access your course room anytime, anywhere via tablet, smartphone or computer. Our Student Technical Help Desk is available 24/7 to help you access your learning environment and materials.

When can I start taking online courses?

Because of the flexibility of online learning, there are opportunities to enroll throughout the year. At DeVry, classes start every 8 weeks. That means you can complete up to 12 courses a year when you take 2 courses at a time.

Will I earn a diploma? Can I participate in a graduation ceremony?

Yes. Upon successful program completion you will earn a diploma and will be invited to participate in a graduation ceremony in your area. Ceremonies are held at different times of the year throughout the country, including virtual commencements.
