FAQ: Human Resources Programs

Which degree is best for HR?

It depends on your career goals, level of education and previous experience. If you have not yet entered the human resources field, an associate or bachelor’s degree is a great place to start. If you’ve already earned a bachelor’s degree, pursuing a graduate certificate or master’s degree can help advance your skills to the next level.

How do beginners get into HR?

Since many human resources roles have education requirements, we encourage beginners to start by earning an undergraduate degree, such as an associate or bachelor’s degree. This is a great way to learn essential human resources concepts, skills and technology.

How long is an HR program?

It depends on the program you choose, as well as any qualifying transfer credits you may have. Our Associate in Business with a Human Resources Track, for example, can be complete in as few as 61 credit hours, or even less with qualifying transfer credits.

What does a human resources manager do?

A human resources manager oversees various HR functions including recruitment, employee relations, performance management and compliance with labor laws. They develop and implement HR policies, handle employee concerns and work to align HR practices with organizational goals.

Can I become a human resources manager without a degree?

While it may be possible to become a human resources manager without a degree, many roles require a certain level of education and skills, such as a certificate or degree from an accredited university. Take a look at human resources roles posted in your area to determine the qualifications necessary for the jobs you are interested in.

1Program and course availability vary by location. In site-based programs, students will be required to take a substantial amount of coursework online to complete their program.
