Regalia

Am I required to order a cap and gown?

Caps and gowns are required for the in-person ceremony.

Graduates participating in the virtual commencements are not required to wear a cap and gown. However, those graduates will be asked to submit a photo of themselves to be displayed during the ceremony. Graduates may purchase cap and gown for that photo if desired.

If I decide to order regalia, what pieces will I need?
  • Undergrad regalia includes a gown, cap, and tassel.

  • Master’s regalia includes a master’s gown, master’s hood, cap, and tassel.

How do I order my cap and gown?

Order your commencement regalia from Jostens at www.jostens.com.

  • Jostens regalia for master’s degree students can be found under: Keller Graduate School of Management.

  • Jostens regalia for undergraduate certificates, associate, and bachelor’s degree students can be found under: DeVry University – all locations.

In-person attendees: It is recommended that orders be placed by Friday, April 24, to receive them before the ceremony registration deadline. It will take approximately 6 weeks for your Jostens order to arrive. If you are unable to place your order by Friday, April 25, you may purchase regalia items through online vendors such as Amazon.

Virtual attendees: While regalia is not required for virtual ceremonies, graduates have the option to order a cap and gown from Jostens. To submit a celebratory photo wearing your regalia, place your order at www.jostens.com no later than Friday, March 27, as it will take approximately 6 weeks for your order to arrive.

Is my Jostens order refundable?

Jostens orders cannot be returned and are not refundable.

What is the Stole of Gratitude and is it mandatory?

The Stole of Gratitude is an optional regalia piece and is not mandatory for purchase.

The Royal Blue (DeVry’s color) Stole of Gratitude is a symbolic garment worn by graduates during the commencement ceremony to express appreciation for their support system. After the ceremony, the graduate presents the stole to the individual(s) who provided steadfast support throughout their academic journey, as a gesture of thanks.

What color regalia should I order?

Graduate hoods (Keller) and undergraduate cap tassels (DeVry) vary in color based on program. Refer to the chart below when making your purchase. NOTE: Keller Master’s Tassel is Black.

  • College of Business & Management – Drab

  • College of Engineering & Information Sciences – Orange

  • College of Health Sciences – Gold

  • College of Liberal Arts & Sciences – White

  • College of Media Arts & Technology – Brown

If I am part of a club or organization, how does that reflect in my regalia?

Please reach out to your chapter advisor for more information regarding your regalia.

Commencement vs. graduation: understanding the difference

What is the difference between commencement and graduation?

There is a big difference between commencement and graduation. Commencement refers to the ceremonial event to celebrate the completion/conferral of a degree, while graduation refers to the academic requirements needed to complete/confer a degree. All graduation requirements must be met by the end of the March 2026 Session to be eligible for the commencement ceremony. Please review the eligibility requirements prior to making plans for commencement.

Staying informed

Students must ensure their contact information is accurate and up to date in the university system. Those who select “Do not email” or unsubscribe from promotional messages may miss important commencement communications, which the university cannot override.
