DeVry University Welcomes Distinguished Academic Leaders to Lead Colleges of Business & Management and Health Sciences

National deans will oversee high quality, career-oriented education offerings

DOWNERS GROVE, Ill., August 17, 2011

DeVry University announced today the appointment of two new national deans who will oversee its College of Business & Management and College of Health Sciences. The national deans will provide leadership and oversight for their respective colleges, establishing the direction of degree programs and supervising curriculum management and course development.

Oscar Gutierrez, Ph.D. – College of Business & Management

Dr. Oscar Gutierrez joins DeVry University as the national dean for the College of Business & Management. Gutierrez earned his master’s degree and Ph.D. from the London School of Economics and Political Science, and completed his undergraduate work at the Monterrey Institute of Technology. For the past 24 years, Dr. Gutierrez has been a faculty member and administrator in the College of Management at the University of Massachusetts – Boston, where he was most recently associate dean for graduate programs.

An accomplished academic scholar, he has more than 35 referred publications to his credit, as well as numerous professional presentations and consulting projects. Dr. Gutierrez began his career in the industry designing and developing information systems for Proyección Corporativa.

Joseph York, Ph.D. – College of Health Sciences

Dr. Joseph York joins DeVry University as the founding national dean for the College of Health Sciences. He brings a wealth of knowledge from numerous academic management positions at leading medical schools, including the University of Illinois at Chicago College of Medicine, the University of Washington School of Medicine and Michael Reese Hospital in Chicago. Most recently, York served as the assistant dean for graduate medical education at the Keck School of Medicine of the University of Southern California.

With more than 15 published manuscripts and book chapters, Dr. York is revered in academia and has been an invited speaker and participant in more than 50 national and international conferences. He earned his MBA from the University of Chicago and a Ph.D. from the University of Illinois at Chicago.
