Susan Lerner Friedberg, Ph.D., Appointed President of DeVry University's Chicago Campuses and Centers

DeVry University has appointed Dr. Susan Lerner Friedberg as president of its Chicago Metro. In her new role, Friedberg will oversee the Addison, Tinley Park, and Chicago campuses, as well as the 10 DeVry University centers in the Chicagoland area.

“Susan’s passion for student success is unmatched, resulting in consistent results for DeVry University in Chicago,” said Terri Johnson, north central group vice president. “Susan’s enormous personal energy, proven track record of success and demonstrated ability to inspire others to excel make her the ideal choice to lead the Chicago campuses and centers.”

Previously, Friedberg was the dean of academic affairs at the Addison campus and spent nine years leading the campus and its west suburban centers.

“I’m proud of DeVry University’s deep offering of degree programs that prepare students for in-demand 21st century careers, and I’m excited to now be working directly with all Chicago campuses and centers," said Friedberg.

Throughout her career in higher education, Friedberg has presented on numerous topics including trends in higher education, legal education, and women in leadership. Prior to coming to DeVry University, Friedberg was a high school and then college English instructor, teaching literature at the University of St. Francis in Joliet, Ill. At the same time, she served as director of adult and continuing education for Felician College and then as grant director for the American Academy of Pediatrics. Once at DeVry University, Friedberg furthered her higher education studies at the Harvard Institutes for Higher Education. She holds an A.B. degree in English from the University of Michigan, and an M.A. in English and a Ph.D. in higher education from Loyola University Chicago.
