Morello was joined by three professors from other universities around the world to help Quaid-I-Azam University enrich its American-studies curriculum. In addition to making recommendations for the program, Morello lectured about the United States Supreme Court and judicial system, mentored doctoral students and spoke with faculty about future collaborations. As a result of the assignment, Morello will be listed as a co-adviser to the university and will continue to review drafts of doctoral candidates’ dissertations.
“As an American historian, it is very interesting to learn how the rest of the world views us and to help others understand our history and culture,” said Morello. “DeVry University’s efforts to support faculty to serve as Fulbright Specialists, and its commitment to other international initiatives such as its study abroad program, help expand the university’s global footprint and prepare students for the international marketplace.”
Morello’s academic background in history and his expertise in curriculum development led to his selection as a Fulbright Specialist in 2013. The Fulbright Specialist Program (FSP) promotes connections between U.S. scholars and professionals and their counterparts at host institutions overseas. The program awards grants to qualified U.S. faculty and professionals to engage in two- to six-week collaborative projects at eligible institutions in more than 140 countries worldwide.
“It is an honor for one of our professors to be selected for an international Fulbright Commission assignment,” said Donna M. Loraine, Ph.D., chief academic officer/provost of DeVry University. “Dr. Morello understands the value of collaborative projects and shares our university’s passion for providing academic support to institutions and students around the world.”
Morello holds a doctorate in history from the University of Illinois at Chicago, and master’s and bachelor’s degrees in international affairs from George Washington University. He is one of a handful of faculty selected by DeVry University to participate in preliminary discussions of the establishment of a Distinguished Professor program, which would honor instructors for their overall contributions to the institution in scholarship, community outreach or teaching.
