What is the difference between a cyber security certificate and a cyber security certification?

A cyber security certificate is an academic program that provides solid foundational knowledge and practical skills. Here at DeVry, undergraduate and graduate certificates are ideal if you want to gain job-ready skills within a discipline or field in less time than a degree. In addition, the qualifying credits you earn can be applied towards a future degree.5

A cyber security certification, however, is an industry-recognized credential that you earn by passing a professional organization’s registered exam and meeting any necessary requirements, demonstrating you have the skills to perform specific roles and functions.

What is DeVry’s Future Cyber Defenders Scholars Program?

The Future Cyber Defenders Scholars Program is offered exclusively to our DeVry University and Keller Graduate School of Management students. Eligible participants gain access to dedicated cyber security career support, such as:

  • Job resources
  • Training sessions
  • Networking events
  • Membership in our national chapter of CompTIA
  • Opportunities to compete on our highly ranked National Cyber League team

Do DeVry’s cyber security courses teach AI?

Yes. Our cyber security courses teach artificial intelligence, so you gain hands-on experience using AI and machine learning tools to optimize cyber security functions and tasks like data analysis, email monitoring, penetration testing, and more.

Depending on the program you choose, you may experience courses such as:

  • Applied AI for Cybersecurity (SEC313): Discover how AI can reinforce cyber threat intelligence and strengthen your organization’s defenses as you learn to leverage it to support email monitoring, fraud prevention, malware detection, algorithm review, and network scanning.
  • Security Operations Center (SEC455): Learn essential skills required within a security operations center (SOC) to successfully protect organizational assets while gaining hands-on practice with simulated cyber threat and attack scenarios in our Cyber Range Platform.

Can I transfer my qualifying credits to DeVry?

Yes! In fact, 2 out of 3 DeVry undergraduate students bring transfer credits with them.6 If you have transfer credits from a previous school, our admissions team can help you submit your transcripts for evaluation. Any qualifying credits may be applied toward your new program, potentially saving you time and tuition costs as you complete your degree. Up to 90 credit hours may transfer, depending on your program.7

Does DeVry offer credit for prior experience?

Yes. If you have relevant work-related experience — including industry certifications you have previously earned — you may qualify for prior education credit. Our Admissions team can help you learn more about this opportunity.
