DeVry University Student Earns Bachelor's Degree While Serving in Iraq, Master's Degree While Serving in Afghanistan
In 2004, Abraham Kyle was told that he needed to complete his bachelor's degree in order to keep his officer status for the Kansas National Guard. "DeVry University offered me exactly what I needed as a military officer - quick degree progression without sacrificing a quality education," said Kyle.
During his service in Iraq, Kyle tackled a full-time course load online, despite his 12 on/12 off, 7 day-a-week schedule. After returning to the U.S. in 2005, Kyle was sent to aid with the Hurricane Katrina recovery effort and again managed to continue his class work. In October 2005, he received his bachelor's degree in technical management.
Kyle decided to pursue a graduate degree, but before he could get started, he was deployed to Afghanistan. While in Afghanistan, Kyle registered for classes but was quickly sent back to the United States when he was severely injured by a rocket-propelled grenade. Only one month later, he began his Keller Graduate School classes online.
"Abraham Kyle is one of the most dedicated and inspiring students I have ever encountered," said Don Weiss, dean of graduate studies at DeVry University's Keller Graduate School of Management in Kansas City.
Kyle, now a father of five, received his master's degree in project management from Keller Graduate School in October 2007.
