Dept. of Energy Spotlights Electric Issue: Cyber Security

Electric utilities need to do more to protect against cyber security threats, the Dept. of Energy says. By calling for these companies to create a “cybersecurity governance board,” the DoE is highlighting the growing need for cyber defense in all areas of business and government—and the need for cyber experts to be defenders.

A premier online news provider reports that the DoE is also encouraging electric utilities to anonymously share data about network risks; doing so will help these companies create a more strategic defense plan.

The 90-page DoE document that outlines the need for a governance board emphasizes that we need to stop denying the probability of cyber attacks. Instead we need to be ready to deal with the fallout when they happen, and prevent them from happening in the future.
