Game and Simulation Programming students at DeVry University's Pomona Campus now have a space of their own. The new lab was recently renovated to create a well-resourced room to support the GSP degree program's needs and is well-appointed to provide a comfortable environment to encourage student collaboration. Every aspect of the room was thoughtfully considered to enhance the gaming and education experience for Pomona's GSP students.
A 16' x 8' hand-painted mural covers the wall. Tagged with characters from games old and new, the wall brings energy and life to the room.
Custom-made beams with shelving provide storage for game controllers and accessories as well as to hide all the wiring required to network the lab.
Large monitors on the wall are networked to the computers so the professor can present class material or showcase student work.
Specially designed gaming chairs enable students to sense and hear crashes, hits, explosions, music and other sensory elements programmed into the games.
Students attend class in the GSP lab, where they use the latest, high-end game development computers and monitors to program and review their work.
When class is not in session, students can relax on the more comfortable furniture to collaborate on their projects or just play games.
The DeVry faculty is thrilled to make this kind of lab available to their GSP students. The GSP lab is manned whenever it is open. Faculty provide support when class is in session and faculty assistants are available at other times.
Students have described their new lab as 'radical' and 'sick'. They thoroughly love their new facility.
